Marilyn Monroe was an American model and actress famous for playing "dumb blonde" characters. She became one of the world's biggest and most enduring sex symbols. Although she was a highly paid actress for only a decade, her films grossed more than $200 million. She died an unexpected death on August 5, 1962, due a drug overdose. She continues to be considered a major popular culture icon.
